Stainless steel has been discovered about 100 years. The stainless steel pipe came into being rightly after the discovery of stainless steel. So the stainless steel pipe history in the world is about 100 years as well. However, the production of stainless steel pipe in China does not have a very long history. Stainless steel pipe history in China is only nearly 50 years. But the production of stainless steel pipe increases rapidly, especially in recent 20 years. The production technology of both stainless steel seamless pipe and welded steel pipe has made considerable progress. The quality of products is constantly improving, and the variety is continuously increasing.

What's more, a handful of the products have already reached the quality requirements of international advanced level. The development of steel pipe production technology began with the bicycle manufacturing. In 19th century, oil was discovered. Then the stainless steel pipes were widely used in the manufacture of ships and warships, boiler, aviation and so on. When the new China was established, in our vast territory, there was only a set of drawing welding machine to produce stainless steel. According to the written history, the earliest welding pipe factory in China was the Rongtai pipe factory which was established in 1921. The stainless steel pipe history of the new China can be divided into three periods.

The three periods are 1950s, the 1960s to 1970s and the 1980s to now. In the whole 1950s, stainless steel pipes got a rapid growth. It is can be said that the time 1950s, is the period when the foundation of stainless steel pipe manufacture was laid. Therefore, the period during 1950s is first period of the stainless steel pipe history in China. The second period of the stainless steel pipe history in China is from 1960s to 1970s. During this period, the production technology of stainless steel pipe became more mature. The output and quality of stainless steel both got great progress. But the production technology of stainless steel pipe was still behind the developed countries, such as Britain and America.

And the application of stainless steel pipe was not very popular because the price of stainless steel pipe was so expensive that most of the people could not afford to buy. The third period of the stainless steel pipe history in China is from 1980s to now. Because of the reform and opening policies in China, many stainless steel factories introduced the advanced foreign technology. Many companies took part in international communication and learned experience from others. In the 1980s, the output of stainless steel pipe manufacture had a great growth and China quickly becomes one of the countries whose steel output is in large volume. The application of stainless steel is becoming various and popular.
